The Polish Heritage Society will again have a booth at Suffield on the Green this year. We look forward to seeing you there! Please stop by to share stories or ask questions about your Polish ancestors. Hopefully, your ancestors are already “leaves” on the ever-growing Suffield Polish Families Tree. If not, I would like to know more about them.

We also look forward to meeting area residents who were born in Poland. In addition to learning your stories of transition to the United States, we would appreciate a little help translating some material recorded in Polish by the St. Joseph and Holy Name Societies of the former St. Joseph Church.

I will be proudly displaying my own Zak-Kreczko Family Tree. Thanks to the online availability of digital Polish vital records, I have recently been able to identify six of my great great great grandparents who were born in the late 1700s. I look forward to helping others accomplish similar genealogical success. Be on the lookout for the inaugural meeting of the Suffield Polish Genealogical Society (also known as the Polish Heritage Society) sometime in October.

On another note, it is nice to see the two statues from the former St. Joseph Church reinstalled on hallowed grounds. The statue of St. Joseph is appropriately located in his namesake cemetery on Hill St. It was a gift to the church from the founding organization, the St. Joseph Society. The Blessed Mother is currently on the campus of the Sacred Heart Parish on Mountain Rd. It is outside the rear wing of Fr. Ted Raczyinski Hall and was donated in memory of Veronica and Michael Zukowski by their children.

See you at Suffield on the Green!
