This red amaryllis was the first to bloom

The Suffield Garden Club is bringing a touch of springtime to the dreary winter months.

The fourth annual Amazing Amaryllis project is on display at the Kent Memorial Library. Regular visitors to the library will have noticed the progress of these sturdy blooms, shown in the accompanying photos.

Beginning in November, Garden Club members Kathleen Horrigan, Judy Edwards and Rita Chmura planted the bulbs and set up a charming display using stacks of books. As of December 21st, happy in their sunny window, the amaryllis bulbs shot up 8 – 12” with one crimson beauty winning the prize for first to show.
Stop by the library to see which blooms have appeared in January!

SGC members Kathleen Horrigan, Rita Chmura and Judy Edwards hold the placard explaining the types of bulbs planted.

The Suffield Garden Club, organized in 1934, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the beautification of Suffield. New members are welcome. Visit suffieldgardenclub.org for more information.
