Director Amy Vessella

In late September Kent Memorial Library welcomed its new Library Director, Amy Vessella; at this interview she had been at work in Suffield for only three weeks, but long enough to have her initial positive impressions confirmed. Amy explained that she saw, early in the process, the beauty of the library and of the town. Hailing from Worcester, she has found the rural environment a comfortable one for her–and who wouldn’t fall in love with Suffield’s fields and farms and village atmosphere? In addition, from the start Amy admired and appreciated the staff of our library and the efficiency and friendliness with which they work, the most important consideration.

As she gets settled into her new position and into the community, Amy is looking forward to learning more about her surroundings and about the many activities that are going on here. She also has to learn how the Connecticut library system functions, since it is different from the one in Massachusetts, where she last worked. And she wants to get to know all of us who live here and enjoy the library; she reports that residents have already been very welcoming. She looks forward to collaborating with other organizations in town to provide services, since a library exists to meet the changing needs of the community in which it is located.

Amy has a Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science (BLIS) and is finishing a master’s degree in the same area. She and her husband are interested in outdoor activities and are planning to do some investigating of Suffield’s outdoor sites such as Sunrise Park and the walking path along the river. In her spare time, she enjoys displays of the visual arts, particularly painting, and also photography. It’s a full schedule for our new Director! But Amy Vessella has lots of energy, as well as interest in people and warmth in making new acquaintances, to say nothing of professional skill. She will be a fine addition to our town.
