… And in January
The Suffield Arts Council will kick off 2025 with a display of artwork by a dynamic, talented, award-winning artist featured in a show in the Pinney Gallery of the Kent Memorial Library, in Suffield from January 4 through the 31.
Alex Ranniello is a mixed media studio painter based out of Enfield. His forte is grounded in portraiture and figure painting made by oil paint and heavy body acrylics; he also works colored pencils, pastels oils and acrylics.
Ranniello’s paintings invoke high vibrational energy, capturing the pinnacle human spirit of summertime. His painting style features impressionistic luminous colors and robust open-ended brushstrokes, encapsulated by graphically styled vivid contours. To cast this ambiance of summer, the characters he paints are set in cheerful, tropical, and warm summer scenery immersed by juicy fresh fruit, pool figurines, and many of the icons and elements emblematic of the seasonal warm weather. With deep-rooted influences from California, many of the paintings’ titles harken back to towns, cities, and landmarks derived from California to give these works recognizability while paying respect to the beautiful scenery and culture.
On Display Since 2017, Ranniello has showcased in twenty-two solo exhibits, eighty group shows, and painted over twenty publimurals. An award-winning artist, his work has been featured in The Hartford Courant, FOX61, News Channel 8 and in his hometown paper, The Wethersfield Life, Faces of Connecticut and the Hartford Has It Mural, which was debuted at Constitution Plaza in Hartford during the Annual Hartford Taste Festival (2022).
A “Meet the Artist” reception is slated for Thursday evening, January 9 from 6 – 8 p.m., in the Gallery. This event is open to the public.
