Suffield Salutes

On Tuesday, September 12, U.S. Navy Electronics Technician 2nd Class Dustin Louis Doyon was laid to rest in his hometown of Suffield. Flags draped overhead from Fire Department ladder trucks led the way for the funeral procession, escorted by Suffield’s own with support from police from the neighboring towns of Windsor Locks, Enfield, Bristol and Hartford as well as Connecticut State Troopers. Citizens, school children and flags lined the route to honor the fallen sailor. Tennessee Gas Pipeline displayed a huge flag from an excavator and ceased work for two days so that services proceeded uninterrupted. Dignitaries from the U.S. Navy and the State of Connecticut along with hundreds of family, friends, neighbors and veterans paid their respects. “I am so very proud of Suffield,” stated First Selectman Melissa M. Mack, “and incredibly thankful to all of our town agencies who worked so tirelessly over the last few weeks and to everybody who came out to support the Doyon family.” Mack also took the opportunity to express her gratitude to the media for respecting the family’s privacy and asked for them to continue to do so in the difficult weeks ahead.
