How Your Recyclables Are Processed

A group of 11 Suffield residents and one East Granby resident toured the USA Waste & Recycling plant in Berlin last month and witnessed some of the latest high-tech methods for sorting recyclables.

Forest Bathing (Shinrin-yoku) Slow Down and Reconnect with Nature

This fall, Trees for Suffield, the Suffield Land Conservancy, and Suffield Parks & Recreation are offering a unique opportunity to experience the restorative practice of Forest Bathing (Shinrin-yoku) on Friday, October 30 at 11 a.m. The 1- to 1½-hour program will be held at the John and Madeline McClean Outdoor Education Preserve, 1080 Sheldon Street in Suffield, located across from the Suffield High School athletic fields. Originating in Japan in the 1980s, Shinrin-yoku, or “forest bathing,” encourages participants to slow down and mindfully connect with nature through their senses. Research has shown that spending intentional time in natural settings can help reduce stress, improve mood and promote overall well-being. The guided experience will be led by Mat Jobin, owner of Reach Your Summit and an experienced outdoor adventure guide. The program begins with a brief meditation to awaken the senses, followed by a leisurely, mindful walk featuring a series of guided invitations to explore the forest in new ways.
