Deputy Chief Well Trained

Dan Vindigni was pictured in the Observer last month when he was promoted to his new volunteer position as deputy chief of the Suffield Fire Department. We didn’t appreciate then that he also serves Suffield as a member of the town’s Emergency Management Committee.

Broad Brook Brewery Work Resumes

October 6 and 7, after many months of idleness at the construction site, excavation work was under way at the incomplete Broad Brook Brewery on South Street. Proprietor Eric Mance was there to consult with another contractor as the back hoe from Diversified Services, an Enfield company, did its work.

Suffield Educators Honored

One of the happy items on the agenda for the September 4 meeting of the Suffield Board of Education was the announcement of this year’s Teacher of the Year and Paraeducator of the Year, chosen from nominations submitted from all four of our schools.

SFD Deputy Chief Sworn In

Along with members of the Suffield Fire Commission, many friends and members of the Fire Department attended a swearing-in ceremony in the Ratley Road fire station prior to the commission’s September 11 meeting.

Library Work Begins

Work started at the library on August 23, as First Selectman Melissa Mack had predicted at the August 22 selectmen’s meeting.

Hazardous Waste Removed

Clean Harbors was again invited to town to collect household hazardous waste materials brought to the pick-up location on Ffyler Place. That company, a large, multinational corporation, is paid to dispose of the material in various government-approved ways.

Old Church Saved

The cherished old building really was in danger of collapse. Glenn Neilson, an experienced construction manager and the member responsible for the care of the First Baptist Church up on Hasting’s Hill at the end of Russell Avenue, had seen some pieces of the ceiling on the floor of the sanctuary and realized there was a problem.

Library Project Nears Completion

Two months ago it seemed that signing the PCB abatement contract was imminent, but at the Observer’s current mid-month deadline, the contract had been signed only by AAIS, the contractor. It was soon signed for the Town.
