The way I see it, it all started as we sat around the dining room table, my dad telling us stories about growing up while I was trying to hide my peas under my mashed potatoes. He was a good storyteller, and it was important to him that we knew what life was like growing up on the farm around the corner where he was the seventh generation to take his first steps on that patch of land.
Bob Warren served on the Editorial Board for the paper’s first issue and was Chairman of the Observer’s Board of Directors from 2001 to 2012.
Everyone has enjoyed receiving The Suffield Observer for 20 years, bringing us all important community facts, good news and current happenings.
In last month’s issue, the Observer reached out to the community looking for people to write. For some time, finding people to get involved and commit time and effort has been an ongoing concern for this organization – as it has for many others in town.
Volunteering should be simple, shouldn’t it? Building off my Co-Editor’s May Observer editorial draft, with a shared desire to improve our community, I am dedicating this editorial to providing information and perspective about how and why to volunteer.
Suffield is a special place! A small town with family, friends and neighbors DNA.
What would we do without The Suffield Observer? Many years ago, we could rely on Winnie Johnson, Eleanor Smith and Thea Coburn, who were local “stringers” for The Springfield Union, The Hartford Times and The Hartford Courant, to report local news every day as needed.
UL is the upper level conference room at Town Hall, otherwise Town Hall meetings are in the lower level meeting room. Check the Town’s website, suffieldct.gov, for schedule changes.
I am relieved and delighted to announce that Kent Memorial Library will reopen its doors in June. This project proved to be my most challenging inheritance to date as First Selectman.
