First Selectman’s Update – October 2021.
The Suffield Observer (https://thesuffieldobserver.com/author/melissa-mack/)
Focusing on Affordable Housing, a term that unfortunately takes on multiple meanings, concerns residents, and is not well understood.
On June 12, 2021, the Town of Suffield renamed and dedicated the Remington Street Bridge as the Dustin L. Doyon Memorial Bridge. It was truly a day to be proud of Suffield.
I write this month’s column directly following the Town Hall ribbon-cutting ceremony which also marks our public reopening following the COVID-19 shutdown. First, I want to say how wonderful it was to see so many residents and board/commission members in person!
With the first of spring’s flowers, I am reminded that even after a harsh winter, the world comes back to life. I share your relief and cautious optimism that COVID-19’s grip has finally loosened.
Sad news to begin this month’s column. Warren Packard, former First Selectman from 1993 to 1995, passed away on January 31. He will be remembered for his community activism and positive impact on Suffield.
Happy and healthy 2021! I hope the holidays proved a time to connect, relax and recharge. 2020 ended on some high notes worth sharing.
My recent Coronavirus Update stated: “Suffield is at a crossroads. We must double-down on our efforts and work in partnership with our neighbors to flatten the curve of this new, arguably more dire, wave of the pandemic.”
Last month, I noted the enormous sacrifice made by our veterans to protect our right to vote. This month, I pay tribute to the courageous heroines who fought for that very right for women.
