Happy 95th Birthday Bridge Street School

I always love coming back to Suffield. It is such an incredibly beautiful town – both in its landscape and its people. I was recently in town for the annual Suffield PMC Kids Ride, which had a record number of riders (208 children) and raised over $55,000 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. An event like that does not come together without a dedicated group of volunteers and families willing to actively participate. The sense of community spirit was very strong on that beautiful Saturday in May.

When the Library Returns to “the Big House”

Happy New Year! For Suffield, one of the highlights of 2019 will be the re-opening of the Kent Memorial Library on North Main Street. What a joyous occasion that will be! The Friends of KML are especially looking forward to the pleasure of viewing the three large photos that were hung on the wall of the lower lobby in 1992, and were removed and stored for the recent renovations. Some Suffield residents may not be aware of how and why these photos came to our library.

Stand Up and Vote

“No taxation without representation” was the rallying cry during the colonies’ struggle for independence. Thousands of citizens, and in particular soldiers, endured unimaginable hardships and risked their lives and fortunes for the right to self govern.

Bridge Street Community Center – Delayed Again

Plans for the reuse of the former Bridge St. School building started with committees and studies in 2005. Careful deliberations, community forums, and ongoing public updates have occurred continuously in the intervening 12 years.

Killing A Community Center

I am a freelance photojournalist and served on official committees studying the disposition of the former Bridge Street School Building and property beginning in 2005.

Not Right Now

Like many people in Suffield, I would like to have a nice community center, but not now. I say this for two good reasons.

Transparency in Government?

I am writing to express my concern about a recent letter written by Melissa Mack, First Selectman (FS) regarding the Bridge Street Community Center.

State Budget Affects Suffield Budget

The unhappy circumstance that Connecticut’s towns are facing is driven in large part by the fiscal irresponsibility emanating from the Governor’s Office and the legislature.
