It is hard to believe that October is already here and our school year is well underway for our students and staff. As with each new school year, our new beginning is yet another chance for our students to learn, explore, and enjoy the many opportunities the community of Suffield provides in its schools. We thank you for your continued support of the Suffield Public Schools, and we look forward to embracing, in partnership, all that there is to take pride in. With “Making Connections” as our theme for the year, we hope that you will consider setting aside some time to reach out to us, attend our many school events, and find ways to support the community organizations who dedicate countless hours to fulfill our promise of an excellent educational experience for our students. Prior to the start of the school year, our Board of Education adopted several goals that will serve to guide our district as we strive for excellence in the months ahead.

The community of Suffield should be thankful to Jackie Hemond, Library Director, and her library staff. With the Kent Memorial Library closed for almost five years, they managed to provide services to our residents through an undersized temporary building on Fyler Place. To say this was an inconvenience for them is an understatement. They managed to hold most of their usual events there or they were creative in finding a more suitable place in which to hold them. The reopening of the library was such an up-and-down situation with the Department of Environmental Protection calling all the shots that planning was extremely difficult. Basically the Town had no control over the situation.
Soon after the King House Museum’s serious fire on December 30, 1983, Fund-Raising Chairman Astrid Hanzalek and Society President Roger Loomis discuss plans for the campaign to help pay for the building’s restoration.
The Suffield Lions Club is offering free vision screening at Kent Memorial Library for any child age six months and older.
The bright color of these gorgeous maples along Sheldon Street by the high school was nicley captured by the photographer three years ago. No matter what year, it gets us in the autumn mood.
It’s not too late! You can still sign up for the Suffield 350th Anniversary Committee golf fundraiser on October 11 at the Suffield Country Club.
