On June 1, 5th grade Girl Scout Troop 10975 built and installed benches at the Pollinator Garden at Stony Brooke Park. The troop consists of 12 girls who earned their Bronze Award through this project. In order to achieve this award, the girls needed to invest 20 hours towards their designated project. To decide which project we would complete, we narrowed our ideas from ten down to three. From the top three, we took a vote, and building benches received the most support.
Dear Editors,
The Board of Education has just imposed pay to play and parking fees on high school students in Suffield. To quote the Yankee Institute’s recent review of the State Legislature’s budget diversion of public transportation funds to create a crisis requiring tolls: “Creating a crisis to justify the imposition of unpopular and unnecessary measures is an offensive way to conduct public policy.”
I hope the citizens of Suffield will see through this maneuver of Chairman Davis and the rest of the Board for what it is, offensive to say the least.

There are many more bears in the vicinity in part because habitats are shrinking, but also because people provide food without realizing it. Once the bears are used to the food sources, they come back and can often cause problems for the entire neighborhood, causing property damage and sometimes threatening human or pet safety. Intentionally feeding bears is bad for the bears. Some measures to take to avoid attracting bears. 1.
Three West Suffield competitors had perfect weather on May 18 for the Connecticut Masters’ Games Track and Field Meet at Veterans Stadium (Willowbrook Park) in New Britain. Sarah Seger competed in the 1500-meter race walk with a time of 17:55. Because she was the only 90+ female competitor, she finished first in her age division. Her next oldest competitor was age 67. Martha Oppenheimer (female 75-79) competed in four events.

The Suffield Board of Education has selected Mrs. Diana Kelley to be the new Director of Special Services for the Suffield Public Schools. Diana comes to Suffield from the Glastonbury Public Schools where she has been a member of the Special Education department for the past eighteen years. She has served as their Director of Special Education since 2015. There were eleven applicants for the position, of whom four candidates were selected for interviews based on their previous work experiences. A search committee that consisted of Board of Education members, administrators, faculty, staff, and parents interviewed the candidates over a period of several weeks.
