The Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame organization teaches us that “women’s lives have been filled with rich experiences, and their daily contributions are an invaluable part of our history that has too often been overlooked.”
With that insight in mind during the winter term, Suffield Academy’s American Studies class reviewed the history of Suffield with a focus on women’s history and now look forward to making a multimedia presentation during the Suffield Historical Society meeting on April 23 at 7 p.m.
The meeting will be held at the Suffield Senior Center. The meeting is open to the public, and newcomers are most welcome.
Please come out to learn more about women’s history in Suffield and email Bill Sullivan with any questions regarding this program: bsullivan@suffieldacademy.org
The Suffield Regional FFA Chapter will be holding an Ag Expo at the Suffield High School located on 1060 Sheldon Street West Suffield, Conn. The Ag Expo will run on Wednesday April 10 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Thursday, April 11 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and provides countless opportunities for hands-on activities related to all areas of agriculture.
Please join us on Sunday, April 14 at 10 a.m. for a very special Palm Sunday service featuring the presentation of When Silent Voices Sing.
A choral drama by Tom Long and Allen Pote is a fresh retelling of the gospel story from the perspective of three women: Mary, the mother of Jesus; Rachel, the woman caught in adultery; and Mary of Magdala. The Second Baptist Church Sanctuary choir and guest vocalists will be directed by guest conductor Lorraine Cetto and accompanied by Jean Aldrich-Jones on piano, Celeste Cannon on flute, Harry Kliewe on oboe, Tom Gotwals on trumpet, and Chris Latournes on percussion. Don’t miss this powerful Holy Week presentation with a special message and beautiful music.
UL is the upper level conference room at Town Hall, otherwise Town Hall meetings are in the lower level meeting room. Check the Town’s website, suffieldct.gov, for schedule changes.
As many Suffield residents have noticed lately, this winter has brought with it an influx of barred owls. It’s been a treat to have an opportunity to observe owls so easily when most of us had rarely, if ever, seen one! Just a word of caution- when watching owls or taking photos, be sure to stay well back. If you’re taking a photo with a cell phone, it’s very likely you’re too close. Ethical birding means not disturbing the bird or “flushing it”.

Suffield’s own Lisa Parker has written several new plays being showcased at the next Suffield Players “Page-to-Stage” reading, produced in cooperation with Kent Memorial Library. Ordinary People – An Evening of New One-Act Plays will perform at The Suffield Senior Center, 145 Bridge Street in Suffield, on April 18 at 7 p.m. The performance is free, and open to the public. “The different short plays in Ordinary People reflect the day-to-day realities and situations most of us encounter,” says Parker. “And the folks we all know… or think we know. Everyone has a story!”
Often funny, sometimes sweet, and occasionally poignant moments punctuate her plots.
