Cocktails in the Hatheway Garden

On Friday, June 15, from 6 to 9 p.m., savor farm-to-table offerings by The Federal, wine, and signature cocktails at Connecticut Landmarks’ signature summer event Cocktails in the Hatheway Garden. Tour the 18th-century Phelps-Hatheway House and splendid garden, lovingly maintained by the Suffield Garden Club for over 50 years. Enjoy music by The Chris Marolda Duo, who will have you out of your seat and dancing! Bid on a variety of Connecticut productions and experiences in our silent auction.

French and Spanish Honor Societies Induct Members

On April 26, the World Language Honor Society at Suffield High School held its annual induction ceremony for new members of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica and Société Honoraire de Français. Members inducted demonstrated high academic rigor and achievement in the study of either French or Spanish. The following students were inducted into the respective societies:

French: Anna Abou-Francis, Paige Anderson, Faith Connors, Liam Duffy, Allison Gambrel, Tori Grano, Alexa Greco, Jewel Hazlett, Lucie Kieffer, Yuriy Mishtal, Mallory Mitzel, Eva Nick, Shavais Oswecki, Stephen Sattan, Nora Shanks, and Gabrielle Stevens. Spanish: Sheralyn Burke, Michaela Conway, Sophia D’Addario, Stephanie Gibson, Millicent Kochman-Sabbatino, Evan Mankouski, Olivia Murphy, Elizabeth Leighton, Madeline Lightle, Megan O’Connell, Vansh Patel, Joseph Puia, Savannah Price, Matthew Raine, Paityn Salerno, Abigail Sperazza, Nicholas Stomper, Jenna Sun, Gabriella Santaniello, Renee Tautic, and Meghan Voisine. The World Language Honor Society at Suffield High School is a prestigious society whose goal is to promote language study and to recognize the diverse cultures throughout the school and community.

SHS Principal Named

It is with pride and great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Mr. James Blain as the incoming Principal of Suffield High School. Mr. Blain was interviewed and approved by the Board of Education after a rigorous process. Three finalists were interviewed by a committee of 19 members including BOE members, students, parents, an administrative assistant, faculty, and school and district administrators. The process included focus groups to characterize the desired candidate qualities, a structured interview, a performance task and interview, and small groups to engage in conversation. Mr. Blain’s authentic leadership skills and passion for educating the whole child make him a great fit for Suffield Public Schools.

Babb’s Beach and Park Opening

Babb’s Beach & Park will be opening this month for the second season. This gem of a park is located on Congamond Lake in West Suffield. Beginning June 23, patrons to the park will be greeted by gate attendants who will welcome you and point you in the right direction to park in the upper lot or to access the lower lot for handicap parking. The beach and park will be open daily, 9:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. and earlier as the sun begins to set earlier in August. Suffield residents may visit the park free of charge with proof of residency and non-residents will be charged $20.00 per vehicle.
