Beauty and the Beast Auditions

The Opera House Players are seeking a cast of all ages for Beauty and the Beast. Auditions will be held at the Broad Brook Opera House, 107 Main Street, Broad Brook Conn. Schedules:

Children’s Auditions (Age 10-15)

Sunday June 10 at 4 p.m.

Please be prompt as we will begin with a dance call and will finish with some readings and singing. Adult Auditions (Age 16+)

Sunday, June 10 at 6 p.m. and Tuesday, June 12 at 7 p.m.

Please be prepared to stick around after your initial audition is finished. A dance call will be held following the cold readings.

On April 24 I was honored to participate as a panelist in the 2018 Special Education in Connecticut Summit sponsored by the Klebanoff Institute and the University of Connecticut Neag School of Education. The keynote speaker, Dr. Renee Bradley, Deputy Division Director, U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs, presented “Equal Access to Opportunity: Do We Have What It Takes?” She asked questions of us that I often ask. Why are we doing what we are doing? Some of our problems in public education have been here for decades. What are we currently doing to address the problems?

Good Friend Honored

Several of these Suffield High School seniors, pictured on May 8, said they were the ones who created this heartfelt memorial in the school parking lot to honor Brianna Mailloux, their popular classmate and star athlete who was killed walking on I-91 in Windsor on April 19.

BBQ Kick Off Planning for SOTG

Do you enjoy the annual festivities at Suffield on the Green? Are you someone who likes giving back to the community? If so, please join us at the Friends of Suffield’s first-ever Summer BBQ to kick off planning for the 2018 Suffield on the Green (SOTG) & Craft Fair. Our dinner meeting will take place on Tuesday, June 12, beginning at 6 p.m.

The Friends of Suffield, the civic group that puts on SOTG annually, is looking for people to help with all aspects of this year’s event – from planning out activities, music and booth locations, to assisting with setup just prior to the weekend’s happenings. This year’s Suffield on the Green & Craft Fair will take place September 8-9.

Did you know that the Observer, your community newspaper, is run by friendly and dedicated volunteers? If you are interested in helping to keep this vital community resource running smoothly, please consider volunteering your time and energy. Some of our volunteer jobs (which include training) are:

Downloaders – download articles from email and put articles into the computer system. Preppers – retrieve articles from the system and put them in column format. InDesigners – need to have computer system skills, but we will teach anyone who has the desire to learn.
