While restoring their old home on East Street North, Frank and Loretta Ruggiero stumbled upon a “concealment shoe” – evidence of the ancient custom of hiding a shoe in a house in order to protect it from harmful spirits.
The debate over data privacy heated up this year when Apple refused access to the government for the cellphone records of the shooters in the San Bernardino attack. The debate about who should have access to private information is not new.

Since the Kent Memorial Library will be closed for the holiday on July 2, the Friends’ July book collection will be held on Saturday, July 9, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Feelin’ Groovy? This summer the library has lots to offer for grown-ups of all ages!
That’s about the best one can say as the Permanent Building Commission chooses alternatives for proceeding. They are confident the problem of PCB contamination in the old portion of the expanded building can be solved, and they are now moving ahead with recommendations made by Robert May of Fuss & O’Neill, a noted expert on the subject.
