SFES Family Fun Day

The Suffield Foundation for Excellent Schools will hold its first annual “Family Fun Day” on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Copper Hill Golf Club located at 20 Copper Hill Drive, East Granby. Spend one of the last few days before school starts enjoying activities geared to all ages. For the serious golfers, there will be nine holes of classic golf; for those age eight and above without clubs but having two feet, there will be the challenge of nine holes of foot golf, a fun sport that combines golf and soccer and involves kicking a soccer ball into a 21” cup on the golf course. In addition, there will be a barbecue buffet, bounce houses, face painting, a dunk tank, a tea cup raffle, and crafts centering around the theme of our March 2019 gala “Fire and Ice” to make and take home. For those unfamiliar with the SFES, there will be an exhibit showing some of the grants and programs that the educational foundation has funded.

Youth Theater Plans Arts Festival

Although it may not be widely recognized, Suffield has a vibrant arts community. This summer, that community will have the opportunity to flourish and come together through the Suffield Arts Festival. On July 14, local artists will convene at Bruce Park for a day full of performances and activities, all while honoring the themes of unity, peace, love, and hope. The Festival will begin at 2 p.m., and will be held outdoors. Songs, dances, plays, comedy and more will keep you entertained all throughout the day!

Academy Hall Open for Rentals

Academy Hall, in West Suffield center, is open April through November for rentals. Built in 1855 as the Center District schoolhouse, it is an ideal spot to host a party or reception, with large rooms and a full kitchen. It is run by volunteer members of the West Suffield Village Improvement Association, and all proceeds are used to maintain the building. Our rates are very reasonable. Visit our web site WestSuffieldvia.org for photos and information.

PMC Kids Hit New Record

The variable light rain on May 12 drove the post-ride activities of the PMC Kids Ride indoors, but a great batch of Suffield youngsters – 207 in all, ages 3 to 16 – weren’t deterred from their commitment. And the pre-event fundraising to provide the entrance fee and much more had been completed in the preceding months, so this year’s Kids Ride brought in $52,541 for cancer care and research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. This was a new record for the Suffield event. As before, the Ride began in the McAlister-Middle School parking lot, under the Suffield Fire Department’s giant American flag. Older kids rode their bikes up Hill Street to Russell Avenue and back, about two and a half miles.

July 4th Concert with the Kevin Prater Band

There will be food and soft drinks available for purchase, or you can bring your own picnic. The Kevin Prater Band (KPB) bases their sound on strong vocal harmonies.

Athletic Hall of Fame Seeking Board Members

The Suffield Athletic Hall Of Fame honors both individual and team athletic excellence, and since its inception in 2001, it has recognized the athletic achievements of 64 individuals and 9 teams from Suffield. The accomplishments and credentials of the honorees are exceptional, and their stories and accolades are impressively on display in the main hallway at Suffield High School. In order to continue the important function of this organization, new members are periodically invited to join. Therefore, at this time we are seeking three to five new members who would be interested in contributing to this important civic organization and continuing with tradition of recognizing athletic excellence and accomplishments in Suffield. The only requirement for membership is an interest in the goal of this organization: to recognize individuals and teams who have demonstrated athletic excellence or made significant contributions to athletics in Suffield.
