Suffield Community Fund Seeks Advisory Committee Members

Suffield has a new community participation opportunity for residents to remain engaged while still practicing social distancing. In 2019, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving established $100,000 community funds for each of the 29 towns in the Foundation’s region, which includes the town of Suffield.

Rotary Thanks First Responders

As a thank you to the first responders of Suffield who aid residents who have been affected with COVID-19, the Rotary Club is providing $1500 donation for meals, snacks and beverages while responders are on the front-line of this epidemic.

Editor’s Note

The April issue of the Suffield Observer will only be available online so that we could comply with good health practices and protect the health of our volunteers, limiting direct contact between people. Whereas the print edition requires that many volunteers work together in close quarters, a skeleton Observer crew has prepared the submissions for this issue, much which can be done remotely.

May Market Coming

Members of the Suffield Garden Club are especially busy at this time preparing for their annual May Market to be held at the Hatheway Barn in Suffield. The date for this event is May 16, the weekend after Mother’s Day.

Friends of the Windsor Locks Canal

Volunteer members of the Windsor Locks Canal State Park Trail met monthly with local and state officials throughout the winter months, making plans for moving forward in our quest to preserve and enhance the park and trail for your enjoyment. Our volunteers have been cleaning up the winter debris and servicing and repairing equipment in anticipation of many visitors.

Commemorating Colonial Slavery

The Suffield Historical Society will meet on Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at 7PM in the auditorium of the Kent Memorial Library. Bill Sullivan’s American Studies students from Suffield Academy will present their discoveries about public history, which they conducted this winter to support the town’s 350th anniversary.

Troop 66 Events

Troop 66 from West Suffield has had a great fall and winter. We had a canoe campout where we paddled down the Delaware River, a video game lock-in where we stayed up late and played videogames, and a Thanksgiving campout where we cooked a Thanksgiving feast for our families.

Polish Heritage Meeting Canceled

On March 12, First Selectman Mack announced that meeting rooms in emergency services facilities would be suspended until further notice. Therefore, the April 1 meeting of the Polish Heritage Society scheduled to be held in the Suffield Ambulance Center has been canceled.
