Maple on Main

The weather on March 1 was perfect for Maple on Main! Many families came to the Phelps-Hatheway House on Sunday to see the boil and taste the sap and syrup.

Town Hall Planning Continues
|
The manner of financing the planned renovations to the Suffield Town Hall has been under study by the Town administration. As reported in last month’s issue, part of the $5.13 million voted by the Town in 2015 has been spent in architectural studies and other pre-construction payments.

Aces High Rides High Again
|
Aces High, Team 176, the Suffield/Windsor Locks team in the FIRST Robotics Competition, attended its first meet in Waterbury on the first weekend of March and things just couldn’t seem to go wrong. This was a New England regional qualifying meet that Aces High hoped would start them on the road to the World Championship in Detroit in late April.

The Sound of Silence
|
This year’s public production of the customary spring musical at Suffield High School was cancelled at almost the last minute by the Town’s bold, understandable response to the national emergency – among other closings, the COVID-19 pandemic had silenced The Sound of Music.

A Fond Farewell
|
Just a few months ago I was writing to introduce myself as the Interim Library Director for the Kent Memorial Library. And now that a new director has been hired, I am saying goodbye to the library and Suffield once again. I have enjoyed my time here, and am grateful for having had the opportunity to work with the town administration, the Library Commission, and most importantly, the dedicated library staff to ensure that the Kent Memorial Library continued to operate effectively during this latest transition. The support, cooperation, and encouragement I received was always very much appreciated. As I return to retirement with a newfound appreciation for a slower pace of life, I wish you all the best for the library’s future success!
