Lake Road Improving, Slowly

In our February issue, the Observer published a description of the pavement problems on the newly-relocated Lake Road, and First Selectman Melissa Mack provided a comprehensive description of a remediation program in her Observer column in March. The program had been worked out with input from residents along with planning sessions with Town Engineer Gerry Turbet, Highway Foreman Mark Cervione, and representatives of Crestview Construction, the Southwick company that now owns the major portion of the new road.

Woods Walker Extraordinaire

Geoff Whittum, who came to Suffield some years ago from his upbringing in Ellington, calls himself a Woods Walker, a delightful term that fits his avocation of exploring the natural environment in New England. Recently he’s been sharing stories of the amazing things he has found in his walks.

Cub Scouts Cross Over

Eleven proud boys of Pack 266 celebrated the successful completion of their advancement in the Cub Scout program at a traditional Blue and Gold Banquet on February 24. Fellowship Hall at Suffield’s First Congregational Church was crowded with parents, grandparents, and friends along with the other boys in the Pack: Bobcats, Tigers, Wolves, Bears, and those who are completing their first year Webelos level, hoping to cross over to become Boy Scouts when they earn their Arrow of Light rank next year.

Eagle Scout Pinned

Home from college for Thanksgiving last November, new Eagle Scout Evan Cashman had his official ceremony in Boy Scout Troop 260 and received his Eagle credentials. After graduating from Suffield High School last spring, Evan is now in his first year at Savannah College of Art and Design, where he is majoring in film.

Not Quite Yet

The optimistic headline on the front page, above the fold of the April 2016 edition of the Observer, was “Library Looks to Open Soon.” The main obstacle to reopening was reported to be one key air quality test.

FFA Greenhands Inducted

In a once-a-year ceremony, the freshmen in the Suffield Regional Agriscience program, having studied and been tested on their understanding of the FFA, are accepted as Greenhand members and receive their Greenhand degrees.

Hold That Pose

The sixth grade blue team of Suffield Middle School presented its wax museum program on the morning of February 15, and most of the students took the concept to heart, standing motionless at their displays.

Twin Athletes Sign

In addition to their birth date and their parents, Allyssa and Alexa Bergamini have shared outstanding careers as athletes, especially in the Suffield Soccer program and at Suffield High School, where this year’s soccer team won the NCCC (North Central Connecticut Conference) championship and reached the quarter finals in the State’s.
