Amazing Amaryllis

About two months ago, Club members potted almost 30 different varieties of amaryllis and one by one they’ve begun to bloom in our homes and on our website. Our “Amazing Amaryllis” project was a result of looking for ways for members to have fun together in the time of COVID-19.   Drive by pick up and potting happened on a warm November day when random “mystery” bulbs were distributed to members. Since that time, we’ve been watching, waiting, and sharing the surprising results with each other.   Here is a small sampling of the variety.

Discovery Helps Slave Study Group

The Suffield Historical Society sponsored an online class during the months of October and November in order to prepare a Witness Stones Memorial for Tamar, who was an enslaved woman who lived at least eighteen years of her young life in Suffield from 1770-1798.

VFW Post Reopens

We are approaching the one year mark since COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, closures and restrictions began. The Landry-Sic VFW Post 9544 canteen closed its doors in mid-March 2020 with the hope to re-open sooner rather than later.

What’s Your Story?

This past Veterans’ Day, Suffield resident Fritz King, a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant and a member of the Suffield VFW Post 9544, was amazed to learn that there are approximately 600 veterans in Suffield. Many interesting conversations with veterans took place that day and started the wheels spinning.

Crossroads Food Pantry

Tucked away at the corner of North Grand Street and Mountain Road sits the Crossroads Food Pantry. Established in 2012 and housed at the West Suffield Congregational Church, the pantry was set out to address hunger in the community.

PMC Kids Ride…As Long As It Takes

The Suffield PMC Kids Ride presented by PeoplesBank will be back in 2021, bigger and better than ever. It has been an incredible nine-year run for this terrific event, and we have received overwhelmingly generous support from so many wonderful people in Suffield.
