There wasn’t much left at the Suffield Country Club on the morning after the 1932 New Year’s Eve fire.
SCA is updating its list of residents in the community who would benefit from a check-up call during a town or state-wide emergency. Residents who use oxygen or need electricity for medical equipment are strongly encouraged to call.
We are sorry to reach out on a Saturday morning to inform you that the NCDHD confirmed that there are a number of staff and residents at Suffield House, Suffield’s sole skilled nursing facility, that have tested positive for COVID-19 with other tests pending.
I am saddened to report that the North Central District Health Department confirmed this evening an additional coronavirus case in Suffield. At this time, that is the extent of the information available. While this news is not unexpected, I share the community’s concern for one of our neighbors. I wish I was not ending your day with this news. Please continue to practice social distancing, take care of each other, and stay well. Melissa M. MackFirst Selectwoman
Effective Monday, March 23, 2020, the Governor required businesses to suspend in-person operations for all non-essential functions via Executive Order #7J. Thomas Drakeley has announced his retirement as superintendent of Stony Brooke and Sunrise Parks after having held the position for 14 years. Tom, with significant assistance from his wife Maryfran and their three now-youthful adult children, Sheila, Molly and Thomas, have served the town and park visitors splendidly throughout those years and will be greatly missed. A lifelong resident of Suffield, Tom leaves behind a legacy of deep caring for Sunrise Park and all its resources. During his tenure, Tom oversaw and was instrumental in many improvements at the park, such as the rehabilitation of the pavilion. He also provided thoughtful input to a number of successful park-based Boy Scout Eagle projects.
