HEALTH DEPARTMENT CONFIRMS NEW SUFFIELD CASE OF CORONAVIRUS

I am saddened to report that the North Central District Health Department confirmed this evening an additional coronavirus case in Suffield.  At this time, that is the extent of the information available.  While this news is not unexpected, I share the community’s concern for one of our neighbors.  I wish I was not ending your day with this news.  Please continue to practice social distancing, take care of each other, and stay well. CORONAVIRUS UPDATE 3-25-2020

Effective Monday, March 23, 2020, the Governor required businesses to suspend in-person operations for all non-essential functions via Executive Order #7J. In a statewide call on Friday, the Governor clarified that the order does not apply to municipalities and municipal CEOs should decide who are essential and non-essential town employees.

Letter to the Editor

The dust is settled now on your failed proposal to move the Town Highway Garage and “develop” Ffyler Place. You are quoted in the JI (Jan.29) as saying that “… it appears that Suffield residents believe the highway garage should stay where it is – and aren’t interested in economic development.”

Parks Superintendent Will Be Missed

Thomas Drakeley has announced his retirement as superintendent of Stony Brooke and Sunrise Parks after having held the position for 14 years. Tom, with significant assistance from his wife Maryfran and their three now-youthful adult children, Sheila, Molly and Thomas, have served the town and park visitors splendidly throughout those years and will be greatly missed. A lifelong resident of Suffield, Tom leaves behind a legacy of deep caring for Sunrise Park and all its resources. During his tenure, Tom oversaw and was instrumental in many improvements at the park, such as the rehabilitation of the pavilion. He also provided thoughtful input to a number of successful park-based Boy Scout Eagle projects.
