Bridge Work Continues

Readers have asked when the present status of the Route 190 bridge to Enfield will end. Even with the somewhat reduced traffic flow during the pandemic, many drivers find the constricted two-lane configuration a bit daunting.

Memorial Day Parade

The Memorial Day ceremony and parade will be held on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31 beginning with the parade at 9 a.m. The parade will form at 8:45 a.m. on Ffyler Place and march up Mountain Road to Main Street to the Veterans’ Memorial.

2021/22 Town Budget Update

Last year the Town was unable to have its standard in-person public hearing and subsequent town meeting to vote on the budget. This was due to the pandemic and Governor’s executive action requiring a virtual public hearing and Board of Finance (BOF) setting of the budget under authorization of the Board of Selectmen.

Road Projects Update

Proposed 2021 Road Projects (Tentative) – Due to the pandemic, most 2020 Road Projects were not completed and have been moved into the upcoming 2021 Road Project schedule. Available funding includes $1.9 million through a bond authorization approved in December 2019.

Bridge Name Honors Fallen Serviceman Dustin Doyon

The Town of Suffield officially dedicates the Dustin L. Doyon Memorial Bridge as part of a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 12, beginning at 10 a.m. The recently renovated Remington Street bridge will be renamed and serve as a tribute to Doyon, an Electronics Technician 2nd Class Petty Officer and Search and Rescue Swimmer for the United States Navy.

How Close Do You Live to Protected Open Space?

Suffield is truly fortunate to have such a great quantity of open space set aside for public use. Likewise, the town has been active in the preservation of farmland, making Suffield second in the state in terms of preserved farm acreage.
