Most of us who live in Suffield have warm memories of one of our favorite traditions, the annual production of Suffield on the Green. The word “production” is an apt designation. The event consumes innumerable hours, immeasurable energy and a wide range of skills from a large number of volunteers in our community. Not only do residents of Suffield support the effort, but many out-of-towners come as well. The appeal of our scenic Main Street, the display of small-town activity and the draw of a number of vendors – all of these contribute to the success of the day.
As he has for many years, Chris Nikolis rode his bike in the Pan Mass Challenge from the Suffield Green to Provincetown, Mass., raising support for the Jimmy Fund’s fight against cancer. He left the Green on August 8 this year, with good friends, young and not-so-young, there to see him off.
The Suffield Greater Together Community Fund was created by the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving in 2019 as part of a larger initiative for each of the 29 towns in the Foundation’s region. Each fund appointed an advisory committee to make decisions about grant funding to nonprofits that serve and benefit local residents. The Suffield Community Fund was granted $100,000 from the Hartford Foundation to support the needs of Suffield residents. Half of the funds were available for grant awards, while the other half of the funds were endowed. The Suffield Greater Together Community Fund is administered by an advisory committee of Suffield residents.
