The Suffield Land Conservancy (SLC) will be holding its annual meeting through Zoom on Thursday, December 3. We will be reviewing our many activities in 2020, including our purchase of 23 acres directly across from Suffield High School that will become the John and Madeline McClean outdoor learning center and classroom.
Isolation, sadness, depression, anxiety, despair, anger, boredom, agoraphobia, paranoia, thoughts of suicide, increased drinking or substance use: do any of these hit home for you or someone close to you? Whether you are five or 95, it is almost impossible to have avoided many of these feelings or behaviors over the past nine months.
Peter LeClerc is a busy man these days. In addition to his regular duties as Director of Parks and Recreation here in Suffield, he is also managing a new COVID-related project called S-PREP, shorthand for Suffield Parks and Recreation Enrichment Program.
As our calendars turn to the final page of 2020, I would like to offer a synopsis of the Parks and Recreation programs and activities during this unique year. We have become familiar with the challenges faced by private and public organizations in performing their traditional functions, and this context is important as one considers the programming offered to our citizens during this period.

As we hit the trails this time of year, we may have to dig deeper to find the beauty around us. Heavy snow has yet to fly, the songbirds with their lovely plumage and melodic songs have headed south, the leaves have fallen, and the woods are mostly quiet and still.
This long-lasting pandemic affects not only people’s bodies but the institutions that people depend upon. Governor Ned Lamont’s COVID-19 Safety Restrictions with regard to Senior Centers are difficult to implement.
