Stonegate, the subdivision being developed off North Main Street, was first announced at the September 2017 meeting of the Planning and Zoning Commission, when Ray Daddario described his plans in a pre-application conference. The project then worked its way through Conservation Commission and Historic District Commission approvals and finally the Planning and Zoning Commission public hearings, deliberation, and final approval on February 28, 2018.
The PCB abatement grit-blasting work at the library was concluded near the end of November. Ceilings and floors have been cleared of the coatings and adhesives that were the suspected sources of airborne PCB contamination discovered in tests at the end of 2015.
The FIRST Robotics organization spread the word on Saturday, January 5, defining this year’s top-level game and distributing kits with certain key parts that the robots will need. Aces High, our local robotics team, went to work immediately.

Quinn Bathgate set his sights on becoming an Eagle Scout from the time he became a Tiger Cub eight years ago. Now, at age 15 after four and a half years as a Boy Scout in Troop 66, he has achieved that goal.
Like many Scout units, Suffield Cub Scout Pack 266 gets a big boost every year from selling Boy Scout popcorn. And for the third year in a row, Aiden Thomson, a ten-year old Bear Cub in the third grade at McAlister, has been the most successful salesman.
A Christmas door contest among Town departments was held again this year, for the third year in a row.
Sometimes it’s not easy to find a workable date to celebrate a new Eagle Scout’s achievement, and Mickey Barron’s Eagle ceremony had to wait for Christmas break at Emmanuel College, in Boston, where he’s beginning another long achievement trail: he hopes to go to medical school and do some good for humanity from that vantage. The Eagle ceremony was held on January 8 in Fellowship Hall at Second Baptist.
A small crowd gathered at the Suffield Veterans Memorial on a bright, cool, sunny, Sunday morning at 11 o’clock on the 11th day of the 11th month. They were there to celebrate the armistice ending World War I and honor those who served in all wars.
By mid-November, the grit blasting to remove ceiling paint judged to be the primary cause of the airborne PCB in Kent Memorial Library had been completed, and attention was directed to the floor, from which all the carpet squares and faux wood flooring had been removed, leaving adhesive residue. With all the windows blanked out by plastic to protect the glass, library aficionados couldn’t watch the work, but it’s certainly been gratifying to hear reports on the progress.
