Pupils have been enrolled for the coming school year at the Suffield School up to its full capacity. Both dormitories are full, and also the chapel which will be turned into dormitories for the coming year. Lawrence Chamberlain of Kent avenue was seriously burned about the legs and body… at the gasoline filling station in Kent avenue, when he was standing near the gasoline tank of an automobile that was being filled from the pump and the tank overflowed, and some of the gasoline spattered onto his clothing. A few minutes later he lighted a cigarette and threw the match where the gasoline had flowed over the ground.

A Moment in Time: Old Photos Invited from Our Readers

This photo of the old covered bridge to Enfield shows it viewed from the Suffield side, a few years after it closed to traffic when the new bridge at the end of Thompsonville Road was opened in 1894. The old bridge had opened in 1832 on the site of the 1808 uncovered bridge, which was the first bridge across the Connecticut River in Connecticut.

East Street School Identifications

Last month’s Observer included a photo from a class of children from the former East Street School where the Thompsonville Road fire station is now located. Resident Alice Czyz was able to identify the first name of the Elcock girl in the photo.
