Discovery Helps Slave Study Group

The Suffield Historical Society sponsored an online class during the months of October and November in order to prepare a Witness Stones Memorial for Tamar, who was an enslaved woman who lived at least eighteen years of her young life in Suffield from 1770-1798.

VFW Post Reopens

We are approaching the one year mark since COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, closures and restrictions began. The Landry-Sic VFW Post 9544 canteen closed its doors in mid-March 2020 with the hope to re-open sooner rather than later.

This past Veterans’ Day, Suffield resident Fritz King, a retired Marine Gunnery Sergeant and a member of the Suffield VFW Post 9544, was amazed to learn that there are approximately 600 veterans in Suffield. Many interesting conversations with veterans took place that day and started the wheels spinning.

Crossroads Food Pantry

Tucked away at the corner of North Grand Street and Mountain Road sits the Crossroads Food Pantry. Established in 2012 and housed at the West Suffield Congregational Church, the pantry was set out to address hunger in the community.

What’s happening at SCA this month?

Although our doors are still locked to the public, staff has been working inside since the pandemic began. We have used the time to familiarize ourselves with programs and resources to help our residents who have been impacted by COVID-19.

Eagle Scout Project Underway to Honor Vets

Suffield High School junior Matt Sinofsky has a dual-purpose idea for his Eagle Scout project. A member of Boy Scout Troop 66, Sinofsky proposes to build a ceremonial fire pit at Sunrise Park to be used exclusively for American flag retirement while honoring veterans with a brick and stone configuration surrounding it.

PMC Kids Ride…As Long As It Takes

The Suffield PMC Kids Ride presented by PeoplesBank will be back in 2021, bigger and better than ever. It has been an incredible nine-year run for this terrific event, and we have received overwhelmingly generous support from so many wonderful people in Suffield.
