This old portrait, labeled on the back as “Thomas and John Orr, 1896,” was taken by The Bolton Studios, Rockville & Windsor Locks. The photo was part of a group of old Suffield photos from that era purchased from eBay.

Edmund Morgan, a noted local farmer, was featured in an extensive article in a November 1, 1957 article in Ebony Magazine. In the same year, he was feted by the town for 59 years of service to the community.

Landry-Sic VFW Post 9544 on Sheldon Street, closed for a long period because of the COVID-19 pandemic, reopened in March, and on March 20 a special ceremony was held. A dozen and a half hard-working volunteers had labored hard for several months, not only to clean up the dust and debris that accumulates in a closed building, but to make some long-needed repairs and freshening.

Moxy Boutique Returns to Suffield

Suffield residents can look forward to welcoming back a familiar friend, Moxy Boutique. This upscale boutique and fine jewelry store, originally started in Suffield in 2011, is returning to the Lily House Bed and Breakfast property, whose garage is being expanded to house the boutique.

New Horse Arena Built

It’s not uncommon for an out-of-town contractor to build something in Suffield, but since late February, a crew from Quarry View Building Group has been commuting weekly all the way from Lancaster, Penn. They specialize in timber frames and event space construction, and many of the builders are Amish.

SHS Graduate Retires from the Air Force

Adam Rearick (on the right), a 1997 SHS graduate, just retired as a Major from the Air Force after 22 years of service. This photo was taken on Adam’s LFA (Last Field Alert) as a Minuteman III Nuclear Launch Officer at Malmstrom Air Force Base Montana Echo Launch Control Facility in the 10th Missile Squadron.
