As you likely know, The Suffield Observer (and its online counterpart) which is printed and distributed to everyone in town ten times a year, is produced almost entirely by local volunteers. The paper has a somewhat unique mission, specifically “to build a sense of community throughout the town of Suffield and to provide a forum where all sides of issues can be addressed.”
At the May 26 Town Meeting, Finance Board Vice Chair Tracy Eccles answers a question following the presentation of the $62.3 million proposed Town Budget for the 2021-2022 Fiscal Year, which was approved orally, without a “nay.” With few citizens present to vote,
Preppers take text material submitted to the paper, and “prep” it in column format. They also serve as copy editors, adjusting details to the Observer’s standards (while preserving the writer’s individual “voice”).

For many years, my brother and motorcycle rider Dave Ledoux of Andover, CT, looked forward to a Blessing of the Bikes service offered annually in Hebron, CT. Dave was disappointed to learn that this annual service would not be taking place in Hebron this year, prompting him to search for another.
The customary parade on May 31, if it hadn’t been cancelled because of the weather, would have taken a new route: down North Main Street from Russell Avenue instead of up Mountain Road from Ffyler Place.
It looks like the publishing of the 350th book, Suffield Stories From Another Half-Century – 1970-2020, will be happening soon. The book is one part of the town’s 350th anniversary celebration and is still available to pre-order on the 350th website.
While making the rounds to see the barn quilts, Bev Sikes stopped to visit the one she designed and painted for the Historical Society. The Barn Quilt Trail flyer inserted in The Observer last month has the wrong artist’s name on her quilt.
