Homecoming at Suffield Country Club

After an absence of 17 years, the Calvenese family is returning to the kitchen at the Suffield Country Club. Head Chef Vinnie Calvenese has been working diligently for the past two months ordering equipment and setting up the kitchen at the facility which will be called 341 North Main Street Grill and be open to the public.

New Coffee Shop Coming

Residents may recall that a few years ago a FOR SALE sign was set on the front lawn of Webster Bank, next door to the Kent Memorial Library. Webster had been renting out space that the bank didn’t need, as branch banks don’t need the space for other functions that the former Suffield Savings Bank had enjoyed.

Bigger Than It Looks

When this reporter stopped by Goodyear Farms to see what was going on at that cluster of greenhouses at 676 Mountain Road, he met Allen Clark, who explained that this location is actually part of a local agricultural conglomerate called Clark Farms, Inc. In addition to the greenhouses in Suffield, the family enterprise owns and farms considerable acreage in four towns and two states and operates a popular eatery and farm stand in Granby.

White House Intern Witnesses History Close-Up

Kyle Englander, a 2019 graduate of Suffield High School, knows how to turn the proverbial lemons into lemonade. A three-season runner at SHS during all four of his years with a 2018 cross country Class M title under his belt, he was also part of a record-setting 4 x 800 relay team which won the 2019 Class M State Open and New England indoor crowns as well as the 2019 Class M outdoor title.

A substantial solar array, pictured last fall, was completed last year by Designs for Health behind their distribution warehouse on South Street, across from the new brew-pub.

Talented Art Teacher on TV

Lynda Montefusco and her school, A Touch of Color, were featured with a short video on February 16 in the Small Business Spotlight segment of WFSB’s afternoon newscast. Roving reporter Caitlin Francis and her videographer had visited for an hour during Lynda’s three-hour morning class on February 4.
