Josh Rocks Best

Josh Friend’s second big concert on the Green, continuing the series he’s offering free to celebrate the tenth year of his Suffield Music studio in Suffield, was held on June 23.

Big Crowd Rocks

Well, few were moving hard to the music, but it was indeed a big crowd, estimated to approach 400, that came to hear – and watch – Trailer Trash. The popular band always draws crowds, mostly in Western Massachusetts and North Central Connecticut.

Well It’s About Time, Son!

For most of the day on a weekend afternoon in late April, folks paused on the South Main Street sidewalk waiting for a mother bear and her cub to come down together from a big tree. Special Flyover Caps Bridge Dedication

Mother Nature smiled on Suffield Saturday morning, June 12, and the ceremony dedicating the new Remington Street bridge began in just a few drops of rain, which soon stopped. The bridge now honors and memorializes our town’s latest military casualty, Petty Officer Dustin L. Doyon, U. S. Navy, who died in the South China Sea when the destroyer John McCain was rammed by a Liberian tanker in 2017.

Memorial Day Well Observed

The customary parade on May 31, if it hadn’t been cancelled because of the weather, would have taken a new route: down North Main Street from Russell Avenue instead of up Mountain Road from Ffyler Place.

Shop Openings Delayed

Clear Cut Solutions, a well-established local hair salon, had planned to reopen in new quarters when its location on Mountain Road was sold and reconfigured. But the popular shop was unable to remain in its planned new spot nearby in the lower level of the Webster Bank building because of the new landlord’s difficulty in satisfying building code requirements.

Athletes Sign their Scholarship Commitments

It’s been the custom for a number of years for The Suffield Observer to print individual photos of star athletes at Suffield High School with their parents (and sometimes coaches) when the happy winners are signing to accept their scholarships and promising to play in the sports where they have excelled.
