SPD Review Causes Stir

The Suffield Police Department has been undergoing an internal investigation which was ordered as of January 3, 2019, by Ex-Officio Commissioner, First Selectman Melissa Mack.

Christmas? In June?

Why in the world would we be writing about Christmas in June? Because we want to get you thinking about participating in a couple of the holiday projects that the Suffield 350th committee is working on…

Suffield Farmers Market

Suffield’s Farmers Market begins its 2019 summer season on Saturday, June 22. We have a number of familiar vendors who return each year to provide a wide assortment of locally grown fresh fruits, produce and hand crafted products. Some of our returning vendors are Cupola Hollow, Merry Mite Wild Gardens, Easy Pickins, Maplewood Farms and Bielonko Farms. We are excited to welcome Suffield’s Simpaug Farm as a vendor. They will be selling pork and beef products raised right here! Kent Library will be “popping up” at the Farmers Market periodically with kid’s activities and items to check out and will be moving back to Main St.

With Our Flag Comes Responsibility

As Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15, Memorial Day on May 27 (this year) and Flag Day on June 14 approaches, this is a time to reflect on just what our country’s flag represents. Old Glory, as it is sometimes referred to, is known throughout the world for the great freedoms we enjoy. Its 13 stripes of red and white represent our original 13 colonies and the 50 stars represent the 50 states of our country. The red stripes symbolize hardiness and valor, the white stripes are for purity and innocence. The blue field represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.

Spotlight on Suffield Manufacturing: MetFin

A tenet of economic development is business recruitment and retention, or BRE. The way BRE is conducted is largely through the activity of business visitations. As part of this ongoing effort, Director of Planning and Development Bill Hawkins, and the town’s economic development consultant, Kevin Bielmeier, arranged a tour of Metal Finish Equipment & Supply Co., Inc., at 19 Kenny Roberts Drive in Suffield’s Mach One Industrial Park. The Manufacturer of MetFin Shotblast Systems, this Suffield-based, global company exemplifies how advanced manufacturing is alive and well in Connecticut. The tour was led by President Rob Rush along with Nancy Austermann, and covered a great deal of the 22,647 square-foot facility, which doubled in size in 2012.

Shared Services

If you were able to save 60 percent on a price tag without sacrificing quality, would you think twice about accepting that offer? The smart money says you wouldn’t hesitate, and smart money is what shared services is all about.

New Plans for the Highway Garage

The Suffield Highway Garage on Ffyler Place was built in 1974, but for over a dozen years, the Town has been contemplating ways to move it elsewhere, removing a perceived deterrent to desirable, tax-paying development of the entire Ffyler Place neighborhood: the Town’s two acres and the Laureno family’s 27 acres.

Dog Licenses Can Be Renewed Online

Starting June 1, dog licenses with a current rabies certificate may be renewed online. Once the transaction is completed, a tag will be mailed to you. Our new online registration system will accept Master Card, Visa, Discover and American Express. Credit card fees will apply on all transactions. Connecticut State Law requires all dogs 6 months of age or older to be licensed in the town of residency.

Summer Race Series at Bruce Park

The Suffield Parks and Rec department is excited to announce a Summer 5K Series at Bruce Park, on the high school’s cross country course. Races will be every Tuesday at 6 p.m. from June 18 through July 16. Charles Brydges, a rising senior at Suffield High School, is organizing the races for the Department.  “I’ve participated in similar races in nearby towns for five or six years. I’m excited for Suffield to have a similar race series”, said Mr. Brydges.
