Eagle Scout Project Underway to Honor Vets

Suffield High School junior Matt Sinofsky has a dual-purpose idea for his Eagle Scout project. A member of Boy Scout Troop 66, Sinofsky proposes to build a ceremonial fire pit at Sunrise Park to be used exclusively for American flag retirement while honoring veterans with a brick and stone configuration surrounding it.

Cancer Speakers on Zoom

The bad news: due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the physical Cancer Survivorship 101 conference usually held in June, had to be cancelled. The good news: All of the scheduled speakers have agreed to present remotely through a Zoom format.

Suffield Native Wins Gold in Hollywood

For one Suffield family, the first week in February was one they will never forget. On February 2, in London, native son Greg Butler, along with Guillaume Rocheron and Dominic Tuohy, won the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award for visual effects for their work on the WWI film 1917.

SFES Seeks Nominations for Hall of Honor

Since colonial times our quintessential New England town has produced sons and daughters who have distinguished themselves beyond the town’s boundaries. In more recent times, as part of its mission to promote excellence in the Suffield Public Schools and pride in the town, the Suffield Foundation for Excellent Schools (SFES) is soliciting nominations for the Suffield High School Hall of Honor.

Response to Selectman’s Criticism

As a volunteer and occasional coeditor at the Observer, I take exception to certain comments in First Selectman Melissa Mack’s column about the paper. In a discussion with Suffield Middle School students about her job, she chose to take a cheap shot at the Observer due to her distress over an article written about the Suffield Police Department.
