Remington Bridge Construction Begins

For several years, the bridge that carries Remington Street over Stony Brook has been considered by the State to be functionally obsolete. It was not structurally inadequate, but by modern standards it seemed too narrow and requiring too sharp a curve in the west side approach.

There were two different ballots distributed to voters on February 25: white ballots for the tiebreaker vote for one seat on the Water Pollution Control Authority, required by State Statute, and yellow ballots for referendums on two questions concerning Town property.

For a number of years, the Town highway crew has maintained many of the town’s private roads as a matter of public service and safety, particularly those around the Congamond Ponds. The effort has regularly included snow plowing and local patching.

For the past year, the 350th Anniversary Committee has been compiling a book of histories from Suffield’s past 50 years. Over 100 submissions from Suffield citizens are included in the 360+ page book, divided into six chapters – Town History, Farms, Community Services and Resources, Churches, Education and Memories.

I am saddened to report that the North Central District Health Department confirmed this evening an additional coronavirus case in Suffield. At this time, that is the extent of the information available. While this news is not unexpected, I share the community’s concern for one of our neighbors.
