SHS Senior Amanda Litvak has been recognized by the National Center for Women & Information Technology for the second consecutive year. This year Amanda received the Aspirations in Computing Award. The awardees are recognized for their academic excellence, leadership and future goals for girls and women in computing and technology. There were over 4,300 applications from all 50 states, and it is quite an accomplishment for Amanda to receive this prestigious award. Amanda is the leader of our school-based SWAT Team and takes classes at SHS and Asnuntuck Community college.
On April 4, the World Language Honor Society at Suffield High School held its annual induction ceremony for new members of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica and Société Honoraire de Français.
Every year McAlister Intermediate School celebrates Arbor Day with the help of the Suffield Garden Club (SGC). Following a special Arbor Day assembly for the entire fourth grade class, members of the club distribute a sapling tree to each child, with instructions and advice for planting and care. The annual program, covering about 150 students this year, was begun in 1965 through the generosity of SGC member Valyn Gallivan. This year the little trees, with roots nicely packaged, were Kousa Dogwoods, a small, decorative tree with a reddish purple fall color and white blossoms that appear in late spring. They were obtained from Bartlett Nursery with the help of SGC member Mike DeSoto, who is employed by Bartlett.
Aces High, Team 176, has a proud tradition, and this year the Windsor Locks-Suffield team in the world-wide FIRST Robots Championship added well to that record.
Suffield Instrumental Music Directors Amy Wilson and Corey Killian are pleased to announce the dates of the third annual summer music camp that began with huge success just two summers ago.
Aces High, Team 176, the joint Windsor Locks/Suffield FIRST robotics team, has really “owned the sky” this 2019 season. Aces was seeded first in the first two competitions that we competed in and dominated the Western New England University District Competition in Springfield. With 30 elite teams from the New England area, Aces High won almost every match by a landslide and showed their full potential in the finals matches, securing the victory for their hometowns. When traveling to Worcester on April 10, where the top 64 teams in New England competed, we had our sights set on doing some serious damage. The competition was fierce.
