There has been a great deal of interest in recent weeks about the NFL draft and the choice by the Miami Dolphins of Christian Wilkins, a 23-year-old Suffield Academy alumnus (class of ’15); his athletic gifts are well known and appreciated by many.
In a unanimous vote, on April 2, the Board of Education (BoE) hired Hebron School Superintendent Timothy Van Tasel, effective July 1, to become Suffield’s new superintendent.
Congratulations to Ziad Hassan who has earned the title of Valedictorian of the Class of 2019. Congratulations are also due to the Salutatorian of the Class of 2019, Rabi Zulfiquar who will be attending Brandeis University in the fall.
This semester the students of the Video & Television Production class at Suffield High School have been very busy producing a wide range of projects that have been extremely beneficial for our school.
Congratulations to Jenna Woods, who was chosen to receive the ShopRite Kindness Award for March.
Aces High, Team 176, the joint Windsor Locks/Suffield FIRST robotics team, has really “owned the sky” this 2019 season. Aces was seeded first in the first two competitions that we competed in and dominated the Western New England University District Competition in Springfield. With 30 elite teams from the New England area, Aces High won almost every match by a landslide and showed their full potential in the finals matches, securing the victory for their hometowns. When traveling to Worcester on April 10, where the top 64 teams in New England competed, we had our sights set on doing some serious damage. The competition was fierce.

Suffield High School held its annual Volleyball Marathon again this year from Friday, March 22 at 7 p.m. until Saturday, March 23. at 6 a.m.

If you stop into the Secod Baptist Church (SBC) this fall during the week you may hear the happy voices of pre-school aged children enjoying their day. The Suffield Cooperative Preschool is relocating from First Church of Christ to SBC in July. The Preschool will reside here during the 2019 – 2020 school year while renovations are undertaken at “First Church.”
In addition, we will also be welcoming Greater Springfield Music Together, a family music and movement class for infants, toddlers and pre-schoolers. They will be using the Fellowship Hall one day a week, year round. These are two examples of the types of groups we hope will be interested in using our facility after our Capital Campaign projects are completed.
