SHS Graduate Retires from the Air Force

New Horse Arena Built

It’s not uncommon for an out-of-town contractor to build something in Suffield, but since late February, a crew from Quarry View Building Group has been commuting weekly all the way from Lancaster, Penn. They specialize in timber frames and event space construction, and many of the builders are Amish.

Moxy Boutique Returns to Suffield

Suffield residents can look forward to welcoming back a familiar friend, Moxy Boutique. This upscale boutique and fine jewelry store, originally started in Suffield in 2011, is returning to the Lily House Bed and Breakfast property, whose garage is being expanded to house the boutique.

Duke’s Canteen

Landry-Sic VFW Post 9544 on Sheldon Street, closed for a long period because of the COVID-19 pandemic, reopened in March, and on March 20 a special ceremony was held. A dozen and a half hard-working volunteers had labored hard for several months, not only to clean up the dust and debris that accumulates in a closed building, but to make some long-needed repairs and freshening.

This old portrait, labeled on the back as “Thomas and John Orr, 1896,” was taken by The Bolton Studios, Rockville & Windsor Locks. The photo was part of a group of old Suffield photos from that era purchased from eBay.

Honored Officer’s Hearse Goes Home

A Springfield newspaper photographer gets a close-up as Capitol Police Officer Billy Evans’ hearse rounds the Bridge Street corner. The procession traveled from Bradley Airport to North Adams, Mass., on April 14 for his funeral the next day.

Sunrise Park Usage Grows

Seeking safe ways to socially distance and escape the confines of our homes, a new appreciation of nature has led to increased interest in Suffield park visitation. With more people exploring our picturesque Sunrise Park and Stony Brooke Park locations than ever before, additional maintenance and safety review has been needed.

Traffic Signals Update

The DOT’s project to renovate the traffic control apparatus at Suffield’s complicated intersection in the town center seems to advance in spurts. Back during a bit of last September and most of October, an “in-ground” crew from a western Connecticut contractor called NY-Conn dug in and installed circuit boxes, underground wiring, and short posts for new pedestrian switches at Mountain Road, as well as the foundations for two new steel poles.

Bridge Name Honors Fallen Serviceman Dustin Doyon

The Town of Suffield officially dedicates the Dustin L. Doyon Memorial Bridge as part of a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 12, beginning at 10 a.m. The recently renovated Remington Street bridge will be renamed and serve as a tribute to Doyon, an Electronics Technician 2nd Class Petty Officer and Search and Rescue Swimmer for the United States Navy.
