This year’s Suffield on the Green had the feel of a typical fall weekend, however there was some rain on both Saturday and Sunday that closed the SOTG early at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, although, the sun did eventually come out on Sunday. The crowds, crafters, musicians, local charities and food booths were resilient!!!
3 Figs is serving The Graham Tini honoring Sylvester Graham, and the 1670 Nick Chicken Sandwich.
This 350th Anniversary of the establishment of Suffield was an opportunity to create an educational and inspirational film reflecting on events of the past and present and preparations for the future. A film company, Our Town Films of New Jersey, was hired to achieve this task with the help of members of Suffield’s 350th Committee.
It was fun collecting recipes from Suffield people for the 350th Cookbook. The impetus of the cookbook was a grant from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture to showcase Suffield’s farms, farmstands and farmer’s market.
About two years ago, the 350th Committee decided to create a companion volume to Robert Alcorn’s The Biography of a Town, written for the Town’s 300th anniversary.
Legend: Events in or about Suffield are blue.
Three hundred fifty years ago, in 1670, Suffield was formed as a distinct municipal corporation on October 12. Listed below are questions about events which occurred on October 12 in other years.
On May 19, 1679, Joseph Seger was granted forty acres by John Pynchon’s Committee for Suffield.
Over 40 years ago, Dave and I settled in Suffield to raise our sons, David J. and Brian. Little did I know, then, just how deep my family roots are here.
I have always liked maps. They are just so interesting to look at and study.
