As we look forward to warmer weather, longer days, and the safety and promise of COVID-19 vaccinations, ABAR (anti-bias, anti-racist) Suffield members have been busy reorganizing for the future and preparing for some exciting spring and summer events.

General Programs

Kent Memorial Library staff is busy at work transitioning from our year of Virtual Programming to a hybrid selection of in person and continued virtual options. Thanks to Zoom we’ve been able to stay connected with our patrons despite the pandemic restrictions.

Books and Beyond Series

As part of our new ongoing “Books & Beyond Series”, Kent Memorial Library is delighted to announce a book discussion with award winning author Phan Qué Mai Nguyen on Wednesday, May 12 at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Springtime at the Library

Warmer weather is a welcome change after the dreary and isolating winter, and Kent Memorial Library staff couldn’t be happier than seeing our patrons browsing our collection, using our computers, and picking up kits and crafts to take home.

Brandon Signs for WNE

Smiles all around, SHS senior soccer star Brandon Lewis’s parents Tim and Amy stand by on March 3 as Brandon signs his agreement to accept a scholarship from Western New England University.

Carla Signs for Endicott

With her parents Rob and Heather standing proudly behind her at Suffield High on March 3, Carla Matthews signs to accept her scholarship from Endicott College, in Beverly, Mass., just northeast of Boston.

Assistant Principal Appointed

The Suffield Board of Education is pleased to announce the official appointment of Mrs. Melissa Todd as the Assistant Principal of McAlister Intermediate School. The Board of Education’s unanimous decision follows Mrs. Todd’s successful six-month tenure as the Interim Assistant Principal and a formal interview conducted last evening with the Board of Education.

Kent Memorial Library Reopens

Effective Monday, March 22, Kent Memorial Library opened their building for limited in-person services and expanded hours of operation.*

New SMS Band Room Considered

For several years there has been talk of expanding the music rooms at Suffield Middle School, especially to provide better space for the band to practice. Interest in music as an extra-curricular activity has increased tremendously in recent years, particularly in band.

Read Across America Day

On March 2, 2021 Spaulding and McAlister celebrated Read Across America Day with many engaging events that shared the joy of reading with students. For the last several years we have celebrated this day, which focuses on motivating children and teens to read.

What’s happening at SCA this month?

SCA is Assisting Older Residents to Access COVID-19 Vaccine: SCA staff is assisting CDC-eligible, older residents in exploring their options for obtaining COVID-19 vaccine. Priority is given to those residents age 75+ and/or who do not have access to a computer.

Bigger Than It Looks

When this reporter stopped by Goodyear Farms to see what was going on at that cluster of greenhouses at 676 Mountain Road, he met Allen Clark, who explained that this location is actually part of a local agricultural conglomerate called Clark Farms, Inc. In addition to the greenhouses in Suffield, the family enterprise owns and farms considerable acreage in four towns and two states and operates a popular eatery and farm stand in Granby.
