Source to Sea was held on September 28 this year. It is a day designated for volunteers to gather and participate in the regional event to remove trash from the Connecticut River. New England States along the river, from its headwaters in northern New Hampshire to the mouth of Long Island Sound, rally volunteers in their respective states to make the river a cleaner, safer waterway. Helping Friends of the Windsor Locks Canal this year were four active duty men from Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee, Mass., who volunteered to help clean up the river. Fifteen tires and several bags of trash were collected for disposal from along the river, park and trail during this event.

To make a long story short, this kid is doing some outstandingly inspirational work. Since colonial times our quintessential New England town has produced sons and daughters who have distinguished themselves beyond the town’s boundaries. In more recent times, as part of its mission to promote excellence in the Suffield Public Schools and pride in the town, the Suffield Foundation for Excellent Schools (SFES) is soliciting nominations for the Suffield High School Hall of Honor. The Hall of Honor was conceived in 2002 as a way to inspire students through exceptional role models and instill a sense of tradition and pride in the school as well as the community at large. Selections are made only once in 4 years. Plaques with brief biographies and the accomplishments of past honorees are on the wall outside the high school auditorium as well as on the SFES website, and provide interesting reading.

The Suffield community is invited to attend a series of educational events that will inform and inspire on the subject of autism. A national speaker on the subject, Jeanne Beard of National Autism Academy, will be coming to Suffield on December 3. This event is sponsored by Partnering to Reach Aspirations as part of its mission to help transition recent graduates with high functioning ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) from student life to independent living in our community. Funding has been provided by the Amiel P. Zak Public Service Fund. By better understanding this profile and the neurodiverse mind, we as a community will be of better support, will provide more opportunities and will mutually benefit from working together.
